Lucas Stickley-Miner is an up-and-coming trumpet player based out of Detroit, Michigan, where he’s built a reputation as a versatile and in-demand freelance musician. Rooted in early classical training and inspired by greats like Roy Hargrove, Nicholas Payton, and Marcus Belgrave, Lucas found his voice in jazz through years of focused study and real-world experience. Lucas uses his comfortability across genres to present music that contains intensity, emotion, and joy in equal measure. His current quintet features some of the best young musicians in Detroit playing originals that showcase the influences of jazz royalty with a modern approach.

Lucas earned his Master’s degree from the renowned Jazz Studies department at Michigan State University after completing his undergraduate work at Ohio State University under the tutelage of Byron Stripling. Along the way, he has shared the stage with artists including Byron Stripling, John Clayton, Jeff Hamilton, Carmen Bradford, Dwight Adams, Bobby Floyd, Walter Blanding, Rodney Whitaker, Tito Puente Jr., and Marquis Hill. He currently plays across Detroit and the midwest as a freelance trumpeter and is on faculty at MSU Community Music School-Detroit where he teaches the fundamentals of jazz and the trumpet to students of all ages.
